Jet Mills
Jet mills, microniser mills or fluid energy mills as they are also known are used for very fine grinding or for materials that must not be contaminated. Jet mills consists of a grinding chamber in which contains three or more compressed gas jet nozzles at the lower end with an air classifier at the top of the grinding chamber. Material is fed into the chamber and the jets accelerate the particles to produce collisions where energy is released causing particle breakdown. The air classifier at the top of the chamber allows particles through once they have achieved the required fineness and any over sized particles are returned to the milling section where they are further reduced by high velocity collision. There are different types of jet mills available including opposed jet mills, fluidised bed opposed jet mills and spiral jet mills.
