Bousfield Printing Products Ltd, UK
Case Study

Bousfield printing products Ltd were a manufacturer of printing inks and coatings. Their 1000,000-sqft purpose built facility (one of the most modern coatings and inks facilities in Europe) was installed and built in 1994. In 2005 the company went into liquidation. The Liquidators needed to dispose of the assets, decontaminate the facility and clear the site to a standard agreed to by the Landlord of the facility. 3Di were asked to inspect the facility and make an offer on the assets.
Following inspection of the facility and its assets, which included, a GRP tank farm, stainless steel tank farm, blending vessels, filling machines, saw tooth batch mixers and other ancillary equipment, 3Di decided to make an outright purchase of the whole facility. Within 2 days of inspection and following a series of meetings an offer was accepted.
3Di had to mobilise quickly and an 8-week programme was agreed with the liquidators, as the landlord required the facility for another leaseholder. 3Di's rigging team had to respond urgently, the facility had not been cleaned down and decontaminated and it was essential that the equipment be cleaned down prior to moving off site.
The project came under CDM regulations and required a great deal planning and preparation as hazardous chemicals and solvents were involved. The programme involved a number of stages:
- Disconnection of services
- Decontamination of vessels and equipment
- Disposal of hazardous waste
- Dismantling and rigging of vessels
- Removal of unwanted materials (pipe work, mezzanine floors)
- Clean down of the facility
Once the equipment had been loaded to transport and removed from site into storage,
3Di demobilised and the facility was left in a good state of repair ready for the new tenants.
